Black Crowned Night Heron

While not a rare bird, the Black Crowned Night Heron is a rarely seen bird due to it’s nocturnal nature. There have been frequent sightings, however, of  a juvenile at the Redmond Pond (near the Bandon South Jetty). The first time I observed this bird I thought it was a log in the mud so check closely. It has been working the exposed mud flats and roosting in the dead snags.
